That’s why we were thrilled to partner with Lions Cricket Union and Curtis Campher, Ireland International cricketer and St Stithians College graduate, for an unforgettable day at the DP World Wanderers Stadium.
This special event brought young cricket enthusiasts from the Alexandra Hub to one of South Africa’s most iconic cricket grounds for a day of learning, inspiration, and fun. Curtis Campher, who now represents Ireland on the international stage, returned to his roots to share his passion and expertise with the next generation of cricket stars.
The day began with excitement as each child received a gift bag filled with essentials to set them up for the clinic ahead. With spirits high and cricket gear in hand, the group headed outdoors to warm up. The kids practiced their throwing and catching skills, guided by Curtis and experienced coaches who ensured every child felt encouraged and supported.
Next, it was time to head to the practice nets. Here, Curtis demonstrated key techniques, from perfecting a straight drive to mastering the art of bowling with precision. The kids eagerly soaked up the tips and tricks, showcasing their potential and determination to improve. It was truly inspiring to see their passion for the game light up under Curtis’s mentorship.
After the on-field sessions, everyone enjoyed a well-deserved break with a delicious lunch provided at the stadium. It was the perfect opportunity to reflect on the day, share stories, and bond over their shared love of cricket.
The experience didn’t end there. The young players were treated to an exclusive stadium tour, exploring the behind-the-scenes areas of the DP World Wanderers Stadium. For many, this was a dream come true—a glimpse into the life of professional cricket players and the heart of the game.
Beyond the skills learned and memories made, this event had a bigger purpose. For the kids of Alexandra, it was an opportunity to be seen, to shine, and potentially to unlock future opportunities, such as bursaries or selections, that could transform their lives.
