The one thing that unites gamers from all sides of the console war, whether you play on a high-end gaming PC, Xbox or Playstation, is the desire for the ultimate screen that will showcase your gaming glories in due, high definition magnificence.

To that end, we’ve rounded up the top three contenders for 2020’s best 4K gaming TV of the year.

It should of course be noted, that if you’re looking for the best gaming TV, in many ways you’re essentially looking for the best TV all-round. There’s not too many differences between the needs of gamers from that of your average discerning consumer. We both are looking for the best display quality for our hard-earned money at the end of the day. Still there are some technical factors that gamers will specifically value, such as input lag for example, but we’ll get to that later.

Also, while gaming performance might be your main interest, chances are you’ll use your TV for the occasional series binge, movie marathon, or even just to catch up on your favourite Twitch streamer’s escapades.

So with all of that in mind, we present to you the contenders:

Samsung Q80T – QLED Smart 4K TV

Our number one contender for gaming TV of the year is undoubtedly the Samsung Q80T QLED Smart 4K TV, with its immersive Object Tracking Sound (OTS) and a very low input lag of just 8.7 ms. Input lag refers to the amount of time it takes for the signal sent by your gaming console, PC or any other input device for that matter, to be shown on the screen. While all 4K TV’s offer almost imperceivably low input lag, serious gamers will value the lowest possible input delay.

The Samsung Q80T QLED is available in a range of sizes from 49 to 82 inch, with a refresh rate of 120Hz and supports Variable Refresh Rate technology.

Samsung TU8000 Series UHD 4K Smart TV

Next in line for the title of Gaming TV of the Year is the Samsung TU8000 Series of UHD range of 4K Smart TVs. This decidedly more budget-friendly option offers a superb gaming experience for the price, with its low input lag of approximately 10ms and crisp, clear image with rich contrast. If we had to find one criticism with this range, then it would be the relatively narrow range of viewing angles the screen supports. However this shouldn’t be a problem for most gamers as we like to sit right in front of the screen anyway.

As for the technical details, the Samsung TU8000 series is available in a 43, 50, 55, 65 and a 75-inch model, all with a refresh rate of 60Hz.

LG NanoCell Smart Digital 4K TV

Our third choice is the NanoCell Smart Digital 4K TV range from LG. This TV offers outstanding performance at an extremely reasonable price tag. It also offers 5.1 Virtual Surround Sound and a decent input lag of roughly 11.4ms. It is available in a range of sizes between 55 and 86-inch and has a refresh rate of 50Hz.
