There are so many things to consider when shopping for a new TV, that often, in all of the buzz and excitement, a person overlooks one of the most basic yet essential considerations, “What size TV should I buy?”.
When shopping for a new TV screen, there are a number of factors to consider when choosing which size screen to buy – some may seem obvious and some will be a matter of personal preference. The best thing to remember is that bigger is not always better.
Firstly, you should consider the size of the room that the TV will be in. If it’s going in your bedroom, chances are that you most likely won’t need that 98-inch you’ve had your eye on. If the TV is going on a shelf or a wall unit, measure to make sure that it will physically fit in the space that you have planned. Bear in mind that some TV’s have larger footprints than others so always consider the full size of the TV with its stand and not just the screen size.
Next, you’ll want to consider how far from the screen you are likely to be seated. Once you know roughly how far from the screen you’re likely to be, you can then calculate the perfect size TV for ideal comfort using a simple formula. All you need to do is measure the distance from where you’ll be watching from to the position where your screen will be, convert the distance to inches and then divide it by two.
For example, if you were sitting around two and a half metres from your screen, that converts to just under 100 inches, and so your formula would be as follows: 100(inches) ÷ 2 = 50.
Therefore a 50 inch TV screen would be perfect for an optimal viewing experience. This figure is an approximate guide, however, and anywhere between a 46 to a 55-inch screen would be perfectly suited in this scenario.
